We would love to have you join us for a ShowerUp serving event! No experience is necessary and no special training needed. Most of our volunteer opportunities are 2-3 hours long and are hands-on serving our guests. There are several different ways to be involved including: Shower Prep Crew (cleaning and preparing the shower for the next person), Table (hand our guests shower kits, towels, socks, underwear, etc.), Shower List (manage the sign up list for our guests and let them know when it’s their turn), and Treat Team (bring drinks, treats, snacks, etc. to pass out to our guests.)
Here are some FAQ:
Can I bring my children? Yes, many of our volunteers bring their children. Please remember that what we do it outdoors and that they might be exposed to some “colorful” language. Often our locations don’t have bathroom access, either.
Do I need to bring anything? Generally speaking, no. However, if you would like to bring treats, snacks, drinks, or other items to pass out, that is fine. If you sign up to be on the Shower Prep Crew (cleaning), we recommend bringing cleaning gloves. We often have some, however, if you don’t. Other than that, just bring a smile and an open heart!
If I bring treats or drinks, how many should I bring? We recommend planning for about 25-50 people. Also, you will want to bring napkins, plates, cups, etc. if your items require that. If you bring several things, you might also consider bringing a table.
What happens if it’s raining? We will often still serve if it’s a light mist or scattered shower. We will cancel, however, if it’s heavy rain and/or lightning. Please be sure to sign up on our Volunteer Portal so that you can get last minute updates if there are any.
