At ShowerUp, we not only like to provide mobile showers for those experiencing homelessness, but we also like to provide as many essential products and goods as any human needs. Here are some products that you could consider donating, or visit our Amazon Wishlist to learn more.
Skin and Hygiene Products
Some of the most important things that we use every day go unnoticed. For example, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, or even bug spray and repellant. There are a few things that we try to provide to any homeless person that we come across in our travels. Other items include:
- Moisturizers and Lip Balms
- Alcohol and/or Body Wipes
- Razers and Shaving Cream
- Hair Products and Brushes
- Tampons/Feminine Products
Clothing and Intimates for Men and Women
Another obvious item to donate is any clothing and intimate items – but not just any. We love donations but visiting our Amazon Wishlist will give you a deeper understanding of what we really need. We love to provide those experiencing homelessness with new basic clothes, such as underwear, undershirts, and sweatpants. For women, new items such as bras and underwear can go a long way.
Baby Products for Families
When purchasing items to donate to ShowerUp, think about all the families that may be experiencing homelessness. Almost 60,000 families are homeless on any given night in the US according to the 2017 federal Point-in-Time count. Consider donating diapers and baby clothing, or shoes for young children. School products and backpacks are also helpful for families with children still attending school.
Sun Safety Products
Lastly, and something we prioritize for those in warmer climates with higher UV indexes is products for sun safety. This includes things such as sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, umbrellas, and more. Another thing that can be useful to protect those experiencing homelessness this summer is to provide them with tarps or tents for some sort of shelter from the sun.
